As you may be aware, assault and robbery late at night are on the rise in Addis Ababa.
Last Saturday night (30 March) around 10:15 p.m. one of our parents was attacked and robbed just down the street from Azmera Shiro and Babis Bistro (photo below). This road is across the street from ICS. Police have been alerted and a report filed. The parent is now physically ok, recovering. This incident reminds us to be alert at all times of our surroundings and take added precautions when moving about in Addis Ababa, and especially around known locations of an incident.
Therefore, please take precautions to reduce the risk of an attack for your own safety:
- Be alert of your surroundings when walking in groups and alone
- Walk with one or more people, especially if late at night, try not to be alone
- If close to home, consider calling your guards to come assist you on your walk
- If driving or parked, up to your door or your vehicle, be alert
- If walking, up to your gate, be aware of what is going on around you.
- Report an incident immediately, to local authorities and notify our security team
- Avoid large crowds and demonstrations
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Keep a low profile
